Job summary

The Scottish Sun in Glasgow is seeking an Assistant Editor to lead daily newspaper layout and print execution while shaping the wider content strategy. You will ensure sparkling pages, strategic ad placements, and seamless translation from digital to print across Scotland’s No. 1 newsbrand.

As a senior production professional, you will manage copyflow, headlines, and layout decisions under tight deadlines, collaborating with editorial and commercial teams to maximise impact and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Senior production experience in fast-paced national or regional press.
• Expert knowledge of newspaper production software and layout processes.
• Strong eye for headlines and ad-clash management under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with sub-editing and production desks to design pages and craft headlines.
• Revise and send pages for publication, checking tone and layout against the strongest newsline.
• Control the daily flatplan to ensure a high-impact flow of news, features and sport.
• Work with commercial teams to position ad placements per guidelines.
• Coordinate with Head of Content to maximise online and video impact.
• Ensure compliance with IPSO standards and Editors’ Code of Practice.
