About the role

As a 2nd Line Senior Network Support Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of our support function managing critical incidents, performing deep technical troubleshooting, and supporting strategic improvements in customer networks.

You will act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders, while supporting complex networking environments across multi-vendor platforms including Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet.

You'll also be part of a shared on-call rota, ensuring consistent support for high-priority issues outside of standard hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a senior escalation point for 2nd line network incidents and service requests.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Configure, maintain, and optimise hardware from Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet.
• Lead or support the delivery of network upgrades, migrations, and integration projects.
• Guide and mentor 1st/2nd line engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices.
• Support firewall rule management, network segmentation, and security policy enforcement.
• Participate in the on-call support rota (additional allowance provided).
• Maintain high-quality documentation and ensure effective incident/ticket management.

What will you bring?

• Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Meraki technologies.
• Deep knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, and security protocols.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Clear understanding of core protocols (BGP, OSPF, IPsec, NAT, VLANs, QoS).
• Comfortable acting as a technical escalation point.
• Previous experience working in an MSP, NOC, or similar service-driven environment.
• Willingness to participate in the on-call rota.

Desirable:

• Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIS, Fortinet NSE 4 or above).
• Experience with automation and scripting tools (e.g., Python, Ansible).
• Exposure to SD-WAN, cloud networking (Azure, AWS), or infrastructure-as-code.
