Job summary

Shortlist Recruitment is seeking a senior backend-focused developer in the Chester area. You will design and build cloud-native backend services using the latest Microsoft technologies, while collaborating with frontend, cloud and platform teams.

The role sits in a highly collaborative environment within a regulated, mission-critical domain, offering hybrid working with two days onsite weekly in Chester and a substantial salary package.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core.
• Experience building and deploying applications in Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Understanding of backend systems, APIs and SQL Server.
• Experience across full software development lifecycle.
• Exposure to React or TypeScript.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Copilot or Cursor.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, or IaC.
• Understanding of distributed systems or message-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated or auditable environments.
• Exposure to Agile delivery.
• Experience mentoring developers.
• Kotlin/Android/mobile experience beneficial.

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:

We offer a senior, backend-focused role within a highly collaborative development team, with technical ownership and the opportunity to work in a fast-moving software engineering environment. The position is based in Chester with hybrid working and 2 days onsite per week, and is commutable from Liverpool, Wirral, Runcorn, Warrington, Crewe and North Wales. We offer a salary up to 65,000 plus 20% bonus and great benefits.
