Job summary

Severfield is seeking a Senior NDT Inspector at the Dalton site to lead all NDT activities on shift and ensure inspections meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

You will interpret BS EN ISO, AWS and ASME standards and oversee UT, MPI, PT and VT methods, reviewing reports for accuracy and traceability. Mentoring juniors and maintaining equipment are key aspects of the role.

Qualifications

• Must hold PCN MPI Level 2 and PCN UT certifications covering welds, forgings and castings.
• CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector (3.1 advantageous) is required.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, drawings and inspection criteria.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all NDT activities on shift with timely inspections.
• Interpret BS EN ISO, AWS and ASME standards for inspections.
• Perform UT, MPI, PT and VT inspections and review reports for traceability.
• Mentor junior inspectors and ensure calibrated, maintained equipment.
• Collaborate with production, quality and engineering to resolve issues.

Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.

Vacancy Details

In the Senior NDT Inspector position you will be the lead and primary point of contact for all Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities during your assigned shift. This is a critical role requiring a highly skilled and certified professional with deep expertise in structural steel specifications and inspection techniques. You will ensure that all NDT operations are carried out to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Other Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To

• Lead and coordinate all NDT activities during the shift, ensuring timely and accurate inspections.
• Interpret and apply relevant standards and specifications including BS EN ISO, AWS, and ASME.
• Perform and oversee NDT methods:
• Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
• Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
• Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
• Visual Testing (VT)
• Review and validate inspection reports for clarity, accuracy, and traceability.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior inspectors and technicians.
• Ensure all inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve inspection-related issues.
• Support investigations, audits, and root cause analysis related to quality concerns.
• Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Skills

Key Skills & experience

The ideal candidate will hold the following certifications and demonstrate strong technical and leadership capabilities:

• PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
• Relevant PCN Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certifications, covering areas such as welds, forgings, and castings
• CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector certification require but 3.1 is advantageous.

As well as,

• A solid understanding of structural steel fabrication and inspection requirements
• Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and inspection criteria
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and mentor others effectively
