Job summary

Severfield UK Limited invites applications for a Senior NDT Inspector at our Dalton/ Lostock site. You will lead all NDT activities on shift, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and compliance in a fast-paced structural steel environment.

You will hold PCN MPI and UT certifications, CSWIP 3.0 (3.1 advantageous), and show strong ability to interpret drawings and inspection criteria while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
• PCN Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certifications covering welds, forgings and castings
• CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector certification (3.1 advantageous)
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and inspection requirements
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, weld symbols and inspection criteria
• Excellent communication skills with leadership ability

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all NDT activities during the shift
• Interpret and apply BS EN ISO, AWS, and ASME standards
• Perform NDT methods: UT, MPI, PT, VT
• Review and validate inspection reports for clarity and traceability
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior inspectors and technicians
• Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained
• Collaborate with production, quality and engineering teams
• Support investigations and root cause analysis related to quality concerns

Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.

In the Senior NDT Inspector position you will be the lead and primary point of contact for all Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities during your assigned shift. This is a critical role requiring a highly skilled and certified professional with deep expertise in structural steel specifications and inspection techniques. You will ensure that all NDT operations are carried out to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Lead and coordinate all NDT activities during the shift, ensuring timely and accurate inspections.
• Interpret and apply relevant standards and specifications including BS EN ISO, AWS, and ASME.
• Perform and oversee NDT methods:
• Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
• Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
• Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
• Visual Testing (VT)
• Review and validate inspection reports for clarity, accuracy, and traceability.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior inspectors and technicians.
• Ensure all inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve inspection-related issues.
• Support investigations, audits, and root cause analysis related to quality concerns.
• Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & experience

The ideal candidate will hold the following certifications and demonstrate strong technical and leadership capabilities:

• PCN Level 2 in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
• Relevant PCN Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certifications, covering areas such as welds, forgings, and castings
• CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector certification require but 3.1 is advantageous.

As well as,

• A solid understanding of structural steel fabrication and inspection requirements
• Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and inspection criteria
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and mentor others effectively
