Job summary

Severfield UK Limited in York is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team. You will deliver code-compliant, high-quality structural steelwork solutions that meet client requirements, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

You will liaise with internal and external design teams, conduct structural analysis, and prepare detailed design sketches for draughtspersons, with a focus on buildability and safety.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of structural steelwork design including complex solutions and temporary works solutions.
• Good understanding of buildability issues on major construction sites and in the fabrication shop.
• Degree or Masters Degree in civil/structural engineering.
• Preferably Chartered Structural Engineer MIStructE.

Responsibilities

• Have a sound understanding of engineering principles.
• Work with external clients and internal stakeholders to produce practical design solutions.
• Carry out structural analysis and design to produce calculations for building regulations submission.
• Produce detailed design sketches for draughtsperson with regard to buildability and safety.
• Liaise with internal and external design teams to ensure a clear design brief and compliant design.
• Assess, design and define temporary works requirements.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, QA, safety legislation and contractual responsibilities.
• Take responsibility for all technical aspects of a project and assist junior engineers.

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Have a sound understanding of engineering principles
• Be able to work with external clients and internal stakeholders to produce practical design solutions
• Carry out structural analysis and design to produce calculations for building regulations submission
• Produce detailed design sketches to convey to draughtsperson with due regard to buildability and health & safety
• Liaise with internal and external design teams to ensure that the design brief is clear, and a compliant design is produced
• Assess, design and clearly define temporary works requirements
• Ensure compliance with the company operating procedures, quality assurance, statutory safety legislation and our contractual responsibilities
• Take responsibility for all technical aspects of a project and provide assistance to junior engineers

Required Skills and Experience:
