Job summary

Chattermill is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to develop and deploy next-generation ML for customer feedback analysis. You will work with transformer-based models, fine-tune pipelines, and build retrieval/reranking features in a fast-moving AI space.

You’ll collaborate across Data Science, Engineering, and Product, translating business needs into scalable ML solutions, while mentoring teammates and contributing to equity and growth initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with transformer-based models and architectures.
• Extensive experience handling large-scale, real-world text data (classification, extraction, embeddings, clustering, search).
• Experience in instruction fine-tuning and serving language models; familiarity with vLLM, DeepSpeed or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Train, evaluate, and iterate on ML models and agentic systems for customer feedback, including owning custom fine-tuning pipelines.
• Build and maintain LLM-powered features: retrieval pipelines, reranking, insight agents, data mining, and taxonomy generation.
• Design and run robust evaluation frameworks: test sets, metrics, non-deterministic systems, class imbalance, and checkpoint comparisons.
• Improve semantic search/retrieval; evolve from embeddings toward advanced methods.
• Write production-quality code and collaborate with Engineering on productionisation, data pipelines, and monitoring.
• Translate business needs into practical ML solutions with Product/Commercial teams; support client evaluations.
• Mentor team members, review code/research, and bring advances into the product.
