Job summary

Bumble is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer for Matching & Recommendations in London. You will shape the technical and ML strategy behind Bumble’s recommendation systems, while remaining hands-on with retrieval, ranking, personalisation and two-sided marketplace optimisation.

You will design and deploy production models with PyTorch, build AI agents and MCP integrations, and architect end-to-end ML pipelines using Spark and Airflow.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading ML strategy and execution in production.
• Proven ability to design and deploy large-scale ML systems.
• Proficiency in Python and major ML frameworks (PyTorch/TF).
• Experience with LLMs, AI agents and AI safety practices.
• Strong track record mentoring engineers and influencing at senior levels.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the technical strategy for AI/ML systems powering recommendations, matching, ranking and personalisation.
• Design, develop and deploy production ML models using PyTorch for scalable, high-traffic use.
• Build and deploy production AI agents using foundation models and fine-tuned LLMs with sub-agents and MCP integrations.
• Architect end-to-end ML pipelines integrating Spark and Airflow with training, evaluation, deployment and monitoring.
• Define and evolve experimentation strategies including A/B testing, offline evaluation and online measurement.
• Partner with Product, Engineering and Data leadership to translate challenges into ML solutions.
• Mentor senior ICs, fostering Excellence, Curiosity and continuous learning.
• Own complex problems from insight to measurable impact, adapting as needed.
• Champion responsible AI practices ensuring fairness, privacy and safety.
