Job summary

Royal Bank of Canada is hiring a Senior Engineer - Data Science in London to design and deliver APIs and MCP servers for ML models in production. You will collaborate with Data Science leaders to architect reliable, secure services and will mentor junior engineers while advocating clean code and governance.

The role requires strong back-end development with Python, REST/GraphQL, and experience with Databricks and MCP servers, plus a commitment to secure, scalable infrastructure in a London

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Extensive professional software engineering experience with strong emphasis on back-end development, API design, and production-grade service delivery
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining REST and/or GraphQL APIs—contract design, versioning, authentication, and documentation
• Proficiency in Python as a primary back-end language, with hands-on experience building and deploying Python-based APIs (FastAPI, Flask, or similar)
• Experience with cloud data platforms—Databricks—and solid understanding of how model outputs and data products are served from these platforms
• Designing and building MCP servers, defining tools and resources, and managing server lifecycle

Responsibilities

• Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs that expose ML models to internal apps and enterprise systems
• Build MCP servers exposing models and data products for AI agents and LLM apps
• Create middleware layers to bridge gaps between Databricks and downstream consumers
• Keep APIs stable and well-documented with user feedback loops
• Collaborate with ML engineers and data engineers to ensure serving layer sits on reliable infrastructure
• Build lightweight prototype applications to test and demonstrate model outputs
• Mentor junior colleagues through code reviews and knowledge sharing
• Ensure security and governance standards across APIs, MCP servers, and integrations
