Job summary

XACT Placements Ltd. is seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 & Network Engineer to lead customer projects and act as the senior technical escalation point from Reading HQ. Regular travel to customer sites across the region will be required, with oversight of complex Microsoft 365 and network issues.

The role combines project leadership with hands-on engineering, mentoring, and customer-facing responsibilities, ensuring secure, scalable cloud and network environments for diverse clients.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 in MSP or multi-client environment.
• Experience with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive and Teams administration.
• Entra ID (Azure AD) including Conditional Access and MFA.
• Intune/Autopilot for device management and deployment.
• 365 security/compliance including Defender and Purview; licensing/tenant management.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple Microsoft 365 and infrastructure projects end-to-end from design to delivery.
• Own project timelines, risks and outcomes; manage client communications.
• Deliver growth projects: user onboarding, licensing, device deployment, network capacity, security.
• Design and troubleshoot secure multi-site network environments; advise on best practices.
• Be the technical lead in meetings; visit customer sites as needed.
• Own escalated Microsoft 365, Entra ID, endpoint and network issues to resolution.
• Coach engineers; raise technical standards across the team.
• Suggest security/compliance improvements across customers.
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation.

Senior Microsoft 365 & Network Engineer

Location: Reading, with regular travel to customer sites across the region

Salary: £50,000-£60,000 per annum

Type: Permanent, full time

About the company

Our client is an established Managed Service Provider and Microsoft Partner with its head office in Reading. It is growing steadily and wants a senior engineer with strong Microsoft 365 and networking skills to lead customer projects and to be the senior technical point of escalation for the service team.

The role

The role has two parts.

1. Project lead across the customer base.

You’ll take ownership of Microsoft 365 and infrastructure projects for a range of customers, from planning and design through to delivery. One of the main projects is for a customer in Oxford that expects to grow from around 100 to 200 users over the next 12 months. You’ll lead the work behind that growth so their cloud and network environment stays secure, stable and scalable. You’ll visit customer sites regularly and be a trusted technical contact for the customers you work with.

2. Senior engineer and escalation point at Reading HQ.

Alongside project work, you’ll be based at head office as the escalation point for the support team. You’ll take ownership of complex Microsoft 365 and network issues, guide and mentor engineers, and give technical support across the wider customer base.

Key responsibilities

• Lead several Microsoft 365 and infrastructure projects at once, from scoping and design through to delivery, documentation and handover


• Take full ownership and accountability for project timelines, risks and outcomes


• Deliver growth projects for customers, covering user onboarding, licensing, device deployment, network capacity, security and resilience


• Design, configure and troubleshoot secure multi-site network environments


• Act as a confident, client-facing technical lead, attending customer meetings and giving clear updates to stakeholders


• Visit customer sites as projects and support needs require


• Take ownership of escalated Microsoft 365, Entra ID, endpoint and network issues and see them through to resolution


• Coach and support first- and second-line engineers, and help raise the team’s technical standards


• Recommend improvements to security, compliance and best practice across the customer base


• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation

Microsoft 365 skills and experience

• Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 in an MSP or multi-client environment


• Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive and Teams administration and configuration


• Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity, Conditional Access, MFA and hybrid identity


• Intune and Autopilot for device management and deployment


• Microsoft 365 security and compliance, including Defender and Purview


• Microsoft licensing and tenant management


• A proven record of delivering Microsoft 365 projects such as migrations, deployments and tenant growth


• PowerShell scripting and automation (desirable)


• Azure infrastructure experience (desirable)

Networking skills and experience

• Strong senior-level networking experience, including designing, configuring and troubleshooting secure multi-site networks


• Advanced experience with enterprise firewalls such as Sophos, Fortinet, Cisco or equivalent


• Managed switching, VLANs and network segmentation


• Routing and wireless networking


• Site-to-site and remote-access VPNs


• SD-WAN and resilient or backup internet connectivity


• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT and subnetting (essential)


• Able to investigate complex network issues using firewall logs, packet captures and other diagnostic tools


• A track record of owning escalated technical issues through to resolution, not just routine administration

Certifications (desirable)

MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator), MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator), SC-300 (Identity and Access Administrator), AZ-104 (Azure Administrator), and vendor networking certifications such as Fortinet NSE, Sophos Firewall or Cisco CCNA/CCNP
