Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Microbiologist to join our Pathology team based at Southend. The post offers 10 sessions per week with on-call duties 1 in 3 and a permanent contract.

You will lead microbiology services across sites, contribute to infection control, and work with MDT colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care while pursuing professional development. This role requires MBBS or equivalent and GMC registration, with opportunities for research

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of Microbiology demonstrated through work history and supporting information
• Application demonstrates good knowledge of NHS structures, MDT roles and relationships across the team
• Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal
• Experience supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff; ability to teach clinical skills

Responsibilities

• The Consultant will be responsible, with their consultant colleagues, for the provision, maintenance and development of the laboratory and clinical microbiology and infection control service
• The post holders will work in collaboration with the staff in Microbiology, other Pathology disciplines and the Public and Environmental Health services to ensure a service appropriate to the needs of the hospital, and the Care Commissioning Group (CCG)
