Job summary

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Engineer (Band 6) to provide comprehensive medical device maintenance, repair and life‑cycle management across clinical areas. The role includes supervision of technicians, liaison with suppliers and input into equipment replacement planning.

The post requires strong technical knowledge of analogue/digital electronics, risk assessment and effective communication with clinical staff to ensure patient safety and service continuity.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND, BEng or BSc in a physical science or electronic engineering subject or equivalent vocational qualification.
• A range of relevant technical training courses, OEM or approved supplier.
• Contemporary knowledge of analogue and digital electronics and fault-finding techniques.
• Eligible for membership of an appropriate professional institute.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of technical duties on complex medical equipment ensuring reliability, availability and safety.
• Investigate and test devices; diagnose faults and rectify.
• Record maintenance history using computerised systems for audit and quality.
• Supervise junior technicians as required and train staff.
• Liaise with suppliers for technical and commercial information; support CAS actions.
