Job summary

Our client is an established privately-owned MEP services provider, seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team in the North East. You will prepare mechanical estimates for HVAC, heating, ventilation and related services on projects ranging from £2m to £20m.

Work with senior estimators, design/BIM, procurement and operations, attend site visits and tender interviews, and mentor junior estimators while maintaining high estimating standards across the team.

Qualifications

• Experience in preparing mechanical estimates and tenders for MEP projects.
• Ability to review tender documents, drawings and specifications and identify omissions.
• Strong take-off and cost planning skills for labour, materials, plant and preliminaries.
• Ability to analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations and ensure competitive bids.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate mechanical estimates for HVAC, heating, ventilation, domestic water and related services.
• Review tender docs, drawings and specs to define scope, identify omissions and queries.
• Do detailed take-offs and cost plans including labour, materials, plant, subcontracts, preliminaries.
• Obtain supplier/subcontractor quotes and ensure bids are competitive and compliant.
• Lead tender submissions from enquiry to adjudication and submission.
• Identify tender risks and opportunities; consider value engineering and cost savings.
• Collaborate with pre-construction, design/BIM, procurement, commercial and ops teams.
• Attend site visits, tender interviews and client/design meetings for input.
• Produce clarifications, qualifications and cost breakdowns with a clear basis.
• Support handover after award, sharing tender strategy and quotes with teams.
• Mentor junior estimators and maintain estimating standards across the team.

Our client is an established privately-owned MEP services provider who have been in business for over 23 years and they are searching for a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their Pre-Construction team in the North East.

They specialise in pre-fabrication, new installation and refurbishment, providing market leading services across various sectors including Commercial, Education, Leisure, Accommodation, Residential, MOD/MOJ, Industrial, Retail and Health with values ranging from £2m - £20m M&E. They have an established Estimating team with 8 people and they're currently in their next phase of growth. You will work closely with Senior Estimators with the opportunity to progress to Pre-Construction Manager level, in time.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate mechanical estimates and tenders for projects across HVAC, heating, ventilation, domestic water, public health and associated mechanical building services.


• Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and client requirements to establish scope, identify omissions and raise technical/commercial queries.


• Undertake detailed take-offs and build cost plans, including labour, materials, plant, subcontract packages and preliminaries.


• Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring bids are commercially competitive while meeting the required specification.


• Lead mechanical tender submissions, taking ownership of pricing from initial enquiry through to final tender adjudication and submission.


• Identify tender risks and opportunities, including value-engineering options, alternative technical solutions and potential cost savings.


• Work closely with the pre-construction, design/BIM, procurement, commercial and operational teams to develop practical and deliverable solutions.


• Attend site visits, tender interviews and client/design-team meetings, providing technical and commercial input where required.


• Produce tender clarifications, qualifications and cost breakdowns, ensuring the basis of the estimate is clearly documented.


• Support project handover following contract award, communicating the tender strategy, assumptions, supplier quotations, risks and opportunities to the delivery and commercial teams.


• Mentor or support junior estimators and estimating staff, reviewing work and helping maintain consistent estimating standards across the team.
