Job summary

A Tier 1 contractor in the UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their expanding pre-construction team. This role involves developing comprehensive cost models for significant water infrastructure projects and collaborating with suppliers and subcontractors. Candidates should have a strong mechanical background and estimating experience, particularly in clean/wastewater sectors, with a focus on commercial awareness and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Mechanical discipline background with estimating experience in the water sector.
• Experience on clean/wastewater or capital maintenance schemes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop bottom-up and top-down estimates for mechanical works (£5m–£250m projects).
• Review drawings, specs & scoping docs to build accurate cost models.
• Support pricing strategy, risk identification, and tender preparation.

We’re working with a Tier 1 contractor delivering major water infrastructure projects as part of AMP8. They’re expanding their pre-construction team and looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join them on a remote basis.

? What you’ll do:

• Develop bottom-up and top-down estimates for mechanical works (£5m–£250m projects)
• Review drawings, specs & scoping docs to build accurate cost models
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors
• Benchmark using cost curves and SORs
• Support pricing strategy, risk identification, and tender preparation

? What you’ll need:

• Mechanical discipline background + estimating experience in the water sector
• Experience working on clean/wastewater or capital maintenance schemes
• Familiarity with NEC contracts & estimating tools (CCS Candy = bonus)
• Great commercial awareness + strong attention to detail
