Job summary

RG Setsquare is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Engineering Lead to support a major hospital estate in Coventry, with occasional travel to a site in Rugby. This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical expertise, acting as the mechanical authority across the estate to guide complex decisions, improve reliability, and ensure compliance.

The successful candidate will mentor engineers, oversee maintenance standards, and work 24/7 in a critical healthcare setting, balancing operations

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship and relevant qualifications.
• Extensive experience in mechanical building services or similar complex environment.
• Previous Authorised Person responsibilities and safe systems of work.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with complex mechanical plant and infrastructure.
• Understanding of engineering compliance and operational risk.
• Ability to act as a technical authority and guide decisions.
• Excellent communication and mentoring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Act as Mechanical SME and technical authority across the contract.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical faults and critical plant issues.
• Provide technical assurance and guidance to operational teams.
• Support compliance, asset management and lifecycle planning.
• Lead root cause analyses and implement permanent solutions.
• Develop and improve engineering standards and safe systems of work.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and site requirements for mechanical systems.
• Support reliability and resilience of critical mechanical infrastructure.
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Provide technical support for complex engineering decisions and escalated issues.
• Participate in senior technical on-call and escalation rota.
