Job summary

Mitie is recruiting a Mechanical Engineering Lead to support University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) in Coventry, with occasional travel to Rugby. The role acts as the mechanical technical authority across the estate and keeps hands-on engineering at the core of delivery.

You will lead complex issues, influence standards, and ensure reliability and compliance within a busy 24/7 healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• A recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship and relevant engineering qualifications.
• Significant experience within complex building services or critical engineering environments.
• Authorised Person (AP) responsibilities and safe systems of work experience.
• Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities.
• HTM knowledge or MOD equivalent standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as the recognised Mechanical Subject Matter Expert across the contract.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical engineering issues.
• Provide technical assurance and engineering guidance to operational teams.
• Support compliance, asset management and lifecycle planning activities.
• Lead root cause analysis investigations and implement permanent solutions.
• Develop technical standards, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Mentor and coaching of engineering teams to improve technical capability.
• Participate in the senior technical on‑call and escalation rota.
