Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure? We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Water Solutions team, with flexibility to be based in various locations including Plymouth.

In this role, you’ll contribute to delivering multi-billion-pound capital programmes across the UK water sector, working on projects from small rural sites to complex infrastructure schemes in water and wastewater. These frameworks extend through AMP8 and AMP9, providing stability and impact opportunities.

Key Programmes You’ll Support:
  • Southern Water – £3.7 billion Capital Delivery Programme: supporting Tier 1 Contractors on non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects, and delivering high-quality wastewater infrastructure.
  • South West Water – Engineering Consultancy Services Framework: Multi-Discipline Engineering Design.
  • Wessex Water – Capital Delivery Partner Framework: Design Consultants.

You will be part of a recognized team, awarded the IChemE Global Water Award 2023, with opportunities for career development through local and global projects.

Our flexible working model allows collaboration across disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions, impacting communities positively.

Responsibilities include:
  • Producing feasibility, outline, detailed designs, and supporting construction.
  • Creating design drawings, selecting mechanical plant, and specifying components.
  • Collaborating with water and other engineering teams nationwide.
  • Ensuring high technical quality, contributing to bids, and liaising with clients.
  • Designing mechanical installations such as water and wastewater pumping stations, screens, valves, odour control systems, etc.
  • Conducting site surveys and liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Producing plant layouts, specifications, datasheets, schedules, and P&IDs.
  • Designing pumping stations, calculating headloss, and selecting pumps.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE).
