Senior Mechanical Engineer – Rail

Location: Hull

Regions: North East, North of England, North West, West Midlands, Wiltshire, Yorkshire

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with the ability to develop simple and effective solutions to complex problems. The role involves utilizing software such as Solidworks and Ansys, collaborating with the design and build team in a fast-paced environment where quality is paramount. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own work and will mentor graduate engineers and apprentices as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately work on projects to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity, following the design briefs.
• Produce all documentation in accordance with company and client procedures and ensure proper filing.
• Identify design issues and implement changes promptly.
• Operate within the company's ISO9001 quality management system.
• Manage safety by design, ensuring compliance with legal and company safety standards, adopting a proactive safety attitude.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Person Specification:

• Experienced and competent Mechanical/Electrical Engineer.
• Proficient in Solidworks, Ansys, and StaadPro.
• Capable of producing accurate calculations, models, drawings, specifications, and O&M manuals.
• Ability to develop Design Risk Assessments.
• Ability to work independently when required.
• Good understanding of metallurgy and fabrication techniques.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Committed to continuous professional development and training.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree qualification, preferably Chartered Mechanical Engineer.
• Experience in designing access and maintenance platforms/gantries; bridge gantry experience is an advantage.
• Experience in materials handling.
• Knowledge of control systems is desirable.
• Experience in sectors such as Energy, Nuclear, Heavy Industry, Bridges, or Slip-forming.
