Job summary

Mesa Quantum UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical, thermal, and packaging design of our chip-scale atomic devices: atomic clocks, magnetometers, and gyroscopes.

You will own those decisions from concept through drawings, prototypes, and production release, working with a small UK team and Mesa's engineering teams in the United States. The role is senior and hands-on, with emphasis on precision design, thermal management, and rigorous testing.

Qualifications

• Must have ≥6 years designing precision mechanical hardware.
• Experience moving designs from prototype to production.
• Strong GD&T and production-quality drawings.
• Hands-on build and test of prototypes.
• Familiarity with vacuum or hermetic packaging preferred.
• UK work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Build thermal models to predict heater power and temperature gradients, correlating to data.
• Own mechanical and thermal design from concept to production for clock, magnetometer, gyroscope lines.
• Design magnetic shielding and field control for all device types.
• Design hermetic and vacuum packages with getters, feeds, and leak-tested materials.
• Perform structural, modal, vibration, and shock analyses for vehicle/aircraft deployment.
• Own tolerance stacks and optical alignment with GD&T drawings for laser, optics, vapor cell and detector.
• Design/test fixtures and environmental test setups for device characterization.
• Drive design for manufacture with UK machining, packaging and photonics suppliers; support volume transfer.
• Share a common mechanical design approach across product lines with UK/US teams.
• Establish mechanical design standards, documentation, and configuration control.
• Collaborate with academic/government/industry partners on joint development and testing.
