Job summary

Rivan Industries in London area is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own an electrolyser sub-system from physics to factory rollout, driving performance, longevity and manufacturability.

You will design and iterate stack structures, develop test rigs, collaborate with process, electrical, and controls engineers, liaise with vendors, and benefit from relocation support (£6000/year) and private health insurance; based at Bermondsey HQ with strong ownership and deadlines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in mechanical/aero or related field.
• System design experience including CAD (SolidWorks), design for manufacture/assembly, and procurement of complex, integrated systems with moving fluids.
• Hands-on workshop fabrication and build experience.
• Fundamental thermofluids understanding including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer, and two-phase flow.
• Simulation/analytical modelling competency (e.g. python, FEA, CFD).
• Test setup design, running experiments, and data analysis.
• Alkaline water electrolysis or other electrochemical processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and manufacture of an entire sub-system from physics to factory rollout.
• Own mechanical design of an electrolyser sub-system from early stage physics through detailed design, build and commissioning.
• Generate concepts, define system architecture and technical requirements.
• Design and iterate electrolyser stack structures and sub-system balance of plant.
• Design test rigs to validate hypotheses quickly and cheaply.
• Solve complex fluid and thermal problems, including two-phase gas-liquid flow.
• Produce and iterate detailed design drawings with fabrication workshop.
• Collaborate with process, electrical and controls engineers to integrate the complete system.
• Liaise with external vendors to support development and production.
