Job summary

Rivan Industries in London seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own an electrolyser sub-system from concept through to factory deployment. You will drive mechanical design, integration with process/electrical teams, and iterate toward robust, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical/aero or related field.
• Experience with CAD and design for manufacture/assembly.
• Hands-on fabrication and build experience.
• Fundamental thermofluids knowledge (pressure loss, heat/mass transfer, two-phase flow).
• Experience with Python, FEA or CFD for simulation/analysis.
• Ability to design test setups and analyze data.
• Experience with alkaline electrolysis or electrochemical processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and manufacture of an entire sub-system from physics to factory roll-out.
• Own mechanical design of an electrolyser sub-system from concept to commissioning.
• Generate concepts, system architecture, and technical requirements.
• Design and iterate stack structures and balance of plant.

• Solve thermal and fluid problems, including two-phase flow.
• Produce detailed drawings for fabrication and coordinate with workshop.
• Collaborate with process, electrical, and controls engineers; liaise with vendors.

Engineering at Rivan is about taking technologies that are conventionally treated as low volume, bespoke, and expensive, and rethinking them completely to be mass manufactured, standardised, and ultra low cost. We’re looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to own one of our electrolyser sub-systems to drive that forward, tasked with uncovering new ways of thinking about our system integration, performance, longevity, and manufacturability. The role

Own the design and manufacture of an entire Rivan sub-system, from physics and chemistry, to rolling out of the factory door.

Own mechanical design of an electrolyser sub-system, from early stage physics and chemistry, through detailed design, build and commissioning. We need you to:

• Own the concept generation, system architecture, and technical requirements capture
• Design and iterate electrolyser stack structures and sub-system balance of plant.
• Design test-rigs to validate underlying hypotheses quickly and cheaply
• Solve complex fluid and thermal problems, including two-phase gas-liquid flow
• Own and iterate detailed design drawings with our fabrication workshop
• Work closely with process, electrical and controls engineers to integrate the complete system
• Liaise with external vendors to support our development and production

Core skills

• 5+ years professional experience
• Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or related field
• System design experience including CAD (SolidWorks), design for manufacture/assembly, part specification and procurement of complex, integrated systems involving moving fluids
• Hands on workshop fabrication and build experience
• Fundamental thermofluids understanding, including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer, and two-phase flow
• Simulation/analytical modelling competency (e.g. python, FEA, CFD)
• Test setup design, running of experiments, and data analysis
• Alkaline water electrolysis or other electrochemical processes

• £70 - 90k Salary depending on experience
