Job summary

Baily Garner LLP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Birmingham to lead mechanical design for the Building Services and Environmental team. You will drive technical delivery, oversee junior engineers, and ensure design outputs meet standards.

The role involves site surveys, feasibility through to tender packages, commissioning and testing, with a focus on cross-disciplinary collaboration and budget awareness. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• 5 years+ post-qualification experience in a building services consultancy
• Membership of CIBSE or equivalent, or proven senior-level competence
• Experience in checking design work by junior engineers to maintain high output standards
• Ability to produce mechanical specifications, calculation files and schedules
• Track record coordinating with internal/external design teams for multi-disciplinary delivery
• Ability to assist with budget estimates and cost planning for projects
• Experience passing on knowledge to colleagues and supporting junior staff development

Responsibilities

• Interpret client requirements and statutory obligations to design comprehensive building services.
• Maintain detailed project documentation, including calculation files and correspondence.
• Ensure designs comply with regulations, company procedures and standards.
• Collaborate with internal and external design team members.
• Prepare detailed specifications, drawings, and schedules for all electrical services.
• Review and verify design work, including that completed by Engineers and Assistant Engineers.
• Conduct site surveys, commissioning and testing as required.
• Prepare budget estimates, cost plans, tender documents and contract arrangements.
• Attend project and technical meetings.
