Westlakes Recruit is currently recruiting for several Senior Mechanical Engineers based in Warrington, Cumbria, Bristol, Newbury, or Preston, with hybrid working arrangements on a permanent basis.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Develop design solutions using AutoCAD / Inventor and oversee engineers/designers in producing complex design solutions.
• Produce simple calculations and supervise the creation of complex calculations.
• Check work of others to ensure high standards and compliance with internal and client procedures.
• Create technical documents such as Basis of Design, Testing Strategies/Schedules, Method Statements, etc.
• Take ownership of design deliverables throughout all project phases, maintaining the Design Intent.
• Produce and verify CDM Risk Registers and documentation for Technical Files of new products, plant, and equipment.
• Present technical solutions to clients and teams in both formal and informal settings, catering to diverse technical knowledge levels.
• Present at design reviews and HAZOPs.
• Support development of project safety cases, including HAZID and HAZOP attendance, and produce safety documents and engineering justifications.
• Develop estimates, deliverables, and program logic during bid/tender stages, and contribute to cost estimations.
• Manage a team of engineers/designers to meet project engineering scope.
• Mentor team members to enhance skills and company capabilities.
• Build and maintain relationships with key client and partner contacts.
• Produce and review concessions and technical queries.
• Prepare and review quality plans for single discipline work packages.

The individual

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• Chartered Member of the IMechE (preferred).
• In-depth knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives applicable to mechanical design.
• Proven expertise in mechanical design principles, practices, and techniques.
• Strong experience in producing Technical Files for new products, plant, and equipment.
• Detailed design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment for nuclear applications.
• Knowledge of relevant drawing standards such as BS8888, BS5070, and BS EN 61082.
