Job summary

Certain Advantage is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a hybrid role in the Huddersfield area. The role involves detailed design for manufacture, hand calculations, and CAD activities for heavy industry projects.

You will work with mechanical components, assemblies and subassemblies, employing Solid Edge and ANSYS Workbench, and produce manuals and maintenance instructions as required. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is expected, with knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).

Responsibilities

• Detailed design for manufacture.
• Hand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection.
• CAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling.
• Create deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary.
• Concession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution.

These roles are on a permanent basis and contract basis and are hybrid-based.

The Company

We’re working with an engineering company specialising in solving complex engineering challenges across industries—from Power Generation, Rail and more.

The Role

This role is for Senior Mechanical Design Engineers—someone ambitious and ready to make an impact. You’ll be results-oriented and driven to succeed.

• Detailed design for manufacture
• Hand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection.
• CAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling.
• Create deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary
• Concession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution.

The Individual

• Structural design practices and methodologies, including hand calculations to support design.
• Designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes
• 3D CAD packages for both modelling and drawing, ideally Solid Edge
• Understanding and appreciation of structural analysis and knowledge of FEA/FEM (eg. ANSYS Workbench)
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001)
