Gold Group in Huddersfield is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team working on complex aerospace and defence systems. The role is permanent with a 4-day week option and salary £45,000 - £55,000 plus benefits.

You will lead detail design, hand calculations, and CAD work, modelling in Solid Edge, with focus on DFMA and producing clear drawings and BOMs. Candidates should have UK work eligibility, an engineering degree, and experience in heavy industry gear

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or related field.
• Experience with hand calculations.
• Experience designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gear and gearbox.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and drafting, Solid Edge preferred, with GD&T.
• Understanding of structural analysis and knowledge of FEA/ FEM (e.g. ANSYS Workbench).

Aufgaben

• Carry out detail design activities to meet the requirements of design for manufacture.
• Hand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection, shaft and bearing analysis, preliminary rotor dynamics, other drive system elements including structural components, couplings and lubrication systems.
• CAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling; create component and complex assembly drawings; drawing and technical documentation checking; BOM generation and engineering change control.
• Manufacturing drawings generation with a clear understanding and application of DFMA principles.
• Create deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary.
• Concession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution, coordinating with cross-functional teams; implement corrective actions.

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Huddersfield 4 days per week (4 day week available)

Our client, an established engineering consultancy, require an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team working complex aerospace & defence systems.

Candidates would need to hold British nationality and have lived & worked in the UK for 5+ years and be eligible for SC security clearance.

What the role of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer entails

• Carry out detail design activities to meet the requirements of design for manufacture
• Hand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection, shaft and bearing analysis, preliminary rotor dynamics, other drive system elements including structural components, couplings, lubrication systems and bolted joint
• CAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling. Create component and complex assembly drawings. Drawing and technical documentation checking. BOM and gear data generation and engineering change control processing
• Manufacturing drawings generation with a clear understanding and application of Design for Manufacture principles
• Create deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary
• Concession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution - including hand calculations as required, coordination with other specialist areas such as stress analysis etc. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to carry out the design activities, investigate and analyse non-conformance reports, develop corrective actions, and implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences

What experience you need to be the successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

• Bachelor's/master's degree in engineering or a related field.
• Strong experience with hand calculations
• Experience in designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gear and Gear box
• Knowledge about subsystems that impact the mechanical design / layout of the design.
• Proficient in 3D CAD package for both modelling and drawing, ideally Solid Edge
• Ability to interpret and create high quality engineering CAD models and manufacturing drawings, including GD&T
• Understanding and appreciation of structural analysis and knowledge of FEA/FEM (eg. ANSYS Workbench)
