Job summary

Elev8 Engineering Ltd is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for its London office. You will own the mechanical design for high-profile office and commercial fit-out projects, guiding them from concept to construction.

You will design HVAC and AHU systems, perform sizing and calculations, and coordinate with BIM, electrical and architectural teams to deliver compliant, cost-effective solutions. Strong leadership and UK regulation knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in mechanical building services design.

• Experience on office or commercial fit-out projects.
• Experience in an MEP consultancy or contractor design environment.
• Good knowledge of UK building regulations.

• Contractor experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical design on office and commercial fit-out projects from RIBA Stages 2–5.
• Design heating, cooling, ventilation and public health systems for Design & Build projects.
• Perform mechanical calculations, equipment selection and system sizing.
• Review consultant designs and drive detailed design through to construction.
• Produce coordinated, cost-effective solutions with BIM and digital construction teams.
• Review technical submissions, specs and drawings.
• Support Design Managers, attend design meetings with clients and contractors.
• Assist commissioning and resolve site issues.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - London Up to £70,000 | Permanent Annual bonus of 5-10% Car Allowance Travel to and from office paid for Four days in-office, Fridays from home

A well-established M&E contractor is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing in-house design team in London.

The Role

• You'll take ownership of the mechanical design on office and commercial fit-out projects, developing it through RIBA Stages 2 to 5. You'll be involved from early design reviews and tender support through to detailed design, coordination and construction.
• Designing heating, cooling, ventilation and public health systems for Design & Build projects.
• Carrying out mechanical calculations, equipment selection and system sizing.
• Reviewing consultant designs, spotting technical and buildability issues, and taking them through detailed design and construction.
• Producing coordinated, compliant and cost-effective solutions, working closely with BIM and digital construction teams and aligning with electrical and architectural requirements.
• Reviewing technical submissions, specifications and drawings.
• Supporting Design Managers and project teams, and attending design meetings with clients, consultants and contractors.
• Supporting commissioning and resolving technical issues on site.
• Mentoring junior engineers.

About You

• We\'re ideally looking for:
• Strong experience in mechanical building services design, with a solid understanding of HVAC systems.
• A track record of delivering detailed mechanical designs, and either experience at Senior Engineer level or readiness to step up.
• Experience on office or commercial fit-out projects, or other technically complex schemes.
• Experience in an MEP consultancy or contractor design environment.
• Good knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards.
• Proficiency in mechanical design software.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Contractor experience is an advantage but not essential. Consultancy engineers who want more exposure to construction and delivery are encouraged to apply.
