Job summary

Eaton MSD Cheltenham is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering Function. You will lead design activities, interface with operations, and ensure delivery to schedule and budget. The role requires Chartered status or equivalent and strong PCB/enclosure design experience with emphasis on EMI/EMC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with substantial post-qualification experience.
• Chartered status or equivalent professional recognition preferred.
• Experience with PCB & enclosure design, EMI/EMC focus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare technical documents and design products for their functional domain with minimal supervision.
• Interface with operations and supply chain to ensure design intent and requirements are met.
• Develop DFM/DFT practices across projects and assess risks.
• Assist in engineering estimates and bids, reporting findings to management.
• Present ideas at design reviews and communicate with internal/external customers.
• Lead small technical work packages and guide other engineers to meet schedule and budget.
• Author complex assemblies/drawings with CAD tools and apply tolerances per standards.

Eaton MSD Cheltenham is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering Function.

What you’ll do:

• Able to prepare technical documents and design and develop product data to their functional domain level with no supervision. Support the design intent, delivering design solutions to meet project schedule & budget requirements.
• Apply and scrutinise requirements of a project with no supervision.
• Be able to technically interface with operations and supply chain ensuring the design intent is met and requirements achieved, applying developing DFM / DFT practices throughout.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing engineering estimates & bids, including identifying risks and dependencies within and across functions.
• Effective communication skills. Capable of presenting ideas and proposals to peers and line managers, including presenting at external design reviews (with some support).
• Ability to liaise with support functions (Commercial, Finance, Supply chain etc)
• Awareness of PLM tools.
• Competent at Configuration and Change management and security marking aspects of all types of documentation and drawings.
• Fully understands the security aspects of what we do, commercial export licences and their need and ITAR requirements.
• Capable of Assisting in failure investigations and recommending appropriate solutions, reporting findings to management and customers.
• Support the resolution of technical challenges, supporting other engineers in the relevant domain.
• Capable of leading small technical work packages within a project guiding other engineers as required to help meet schedule, budget and quality.
• Competent at authoring complex assemblies and drawings & models using one or more of the company selected CAD tools.
• Competent at interpreting and layout drawings, all dimensioning, applying linear and geometric tolerances to British and International Standards, contributes to the companies own Draughting Standard Manual.
• Competent at designing electrical wiring assemblies, has an appreciation of working with electronic PCB assemblies and other sub-assemblies in electromechanical designs, with input to the electronics design and PCB layout, software and systems activities.
• Competent at FEA analysis and reporting.
• Competent at designing for manufacture and production processes. Competent understanding of project and engineering lifecycles and required activities within own discipline.
• Technically competent to assess and manage technical risk in their area and honestly present the detail and the wider impact
• Able to communicate succinctly and accurately on technical issues and schemes with internal and external customers and the team.
• Proactivelyable to manageown work
• Usesown initiative and makes timely decisions within scope of the role and is financially awareof the consequences of decisions.
• Good application of Microsoft packages and relevant software for the role.

Qualifications:

• Relevant qualificationsto an appropriate level, typicallybachelor’s degreein mechanicalengineeringorequivalentexperience, with significant post-qualification experiencein a rangeofroleswithinarelevantcomplexengineeringenvironment.
• PreferablyaChartered engineerorequivalent with a recognised professional engineering institution
• Experience with mechanical aspects of PCB & Enclosure design, with focus on designing for EMI & EMC.
• Familiarity with aerospace materials & manufacturing methods
• Understanding of airworthiness and safety for certification. Understands DO-160 and other environmental requirements.
