The Role

Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer - Imaging

Location: Chelmsford, Essex

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for technology and precision design? We're looking for a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a leading role in the development of advanced imaging systems used in some of the most exciting projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design activities across multiple projects, turning specifications into practical solutions.
  • Create detailed design documentation, manufacturing drawings, test plans, and reports.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve solutions.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges, assess risks, and deliver practical engineering outcomes.
  • Support process improvement, industrialisation, and best practice in mechanical engineering.
  • Stay current with industry advances to apply new techniques and approaches.
About You
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Master\'s preferred).
  • Strong CAD skills (experience with PTC Creo and Windchill desirable).
  • Good understanding of FEA, stress/thermal analysis, and design for extreme environments (shock, vibration, thermal).
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture/assembly.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience leading projects and delivering high-quality results.
  • Chartered status (IMechE or equivalent) is highly beneficial.
  • Background in space, aerospace, or high-reliability industries is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ECSS or MIL-STD standards is highly beneficial.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g. DFMEA, compliance matrices) is highly beneficial.
