JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Designer - Fired Heaters to join our Consulting team based in the United Kingdom.

This is a fantastic role for an experienced Mechanical Designer with proven knowledge of Fired Heaters, to utilize their experience in a senior role and further develop their skills and growth.

As a Senior Mechanical Designer within our Consulting team, you will be responsible for delivering complex designs for specialized Fired Heaters across the globe for large-scale projects.

You will have the opportunity to work with our highly experienced Fired Heater team within the Reading office as well as with other global teams on international projects, supporting the lead mechanical designer on the mechanical design of fired heaters, supporting in the proposal process for new work, overseeing the production of all drawings and production materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key objectives for this role are:

  • Review client documentation (specifications, P&ID's, etc.) for compliance and deviations
  • Produce all drawings including General Arrangements, foundation loading plans, coils, manifolds, pressure parts, supports, steelwork, insulation, shipping, etc.
  • Support Lead/Principal Mechanical Designer with material requisitions for pressure parts, castings, bellows, tube seals, instruments, insulation, etc.
  • Review supplier bids for technical acceptance; approve supplier documents post-order
  • Respond to technical queries from clients, suppliers, fabricators, and site contractors
  • Stay updated with international standards like ASME, ASTM, API, PED, UKCA, EPA, etc.
  • Maintain and update standard drawings library
  • Assist in producing layouts for estimates, proposals, and man-hour budgets
  • Calculate material quantities
  • Occasional site visits for data collection and expediting

Expected qualifications include:

  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Design of Fired Heaters
  • Understanding of relevant international specifications
  • Experience overseeing all drawing production for Fired Heaters
  • Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software such as Microstation, Tekla, E3D
  • Knowledge of various heaters, boilers, WHRU's, HRSG's, and Reformers
  • Understanding instrumentation used with Fired Heaters
  • Experience with ASTM/ASME and Euronorm materials, including high-temperature alloys
  • Customer-focused approach and ability to meet project and corporate goals
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and technical subjects
  • High safety awareness and commitment
  • Attention to detail, integrity, a strong work ethic, and dependability
