Job summary

Colebrook Bosson Saunders in London is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (FEA Champion) to own structural analysis across complex product development from concept to production. You will lead simulation-driven design and mentor engineers, shaping standards and best practices.

The role focuses on delivering reliable, manufacturable designs via ANSYS and related tools, collaborating with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to optimise performance and cost.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of mechanical design experience with a focus on FEA and simulation-led product development.
• Proven expertise in structural analysis using ANSYS or equivalent tools.
• Experience managing large, complex engineering projects independently.
• In-depth understanding of DfMA for plastic injection moulding and metal casting.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to guide design decisions.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical workstreams.

Responsibilities

• Lead all FEA and simulation activities across multiple product lines, ensuring structural integrity, reliability, and manufacturability of designs.
• Define and maintain standards, processes, and validation criteria for structural analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement in analysis capability, including automation and material modelling.
• Provide advanced technical guidance to mechanical design engineers, mentoring and reviewing their work.
• Delegate and oversee analysis and design tasks to lower-level professionals, ensuring quality and consistency.
• Provide technical leadership within the engineering function, ensuring consistent application of simulation-led design principles.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with industrial design, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure data-driven design decisions.
• Lead major design reviews, presenting analytical findings to senior stakeholders.
• Influence product strategy and engineering decisions through expert analysis and data-driven recommendations.
• Manage multiple complex engineering projects balancing technical depth with delivery and commercial priorities.
• Support sustainability, weight reduction, and cost optimisation through innovative engineering solutions.
• Ensure engineering documentation meets internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Champion knowledge sharing to strengthen simulation capability across regions.
