Job summary

SMC Group in the UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to drive ideas from concept through to production. You will lead mechanical design projects, produce 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks, and generate technical drawings.

You will mentor engineers, work with manufacturing and procurement to deliver cost‑effective solutions, and help migrate legacy designs into SolidWorks PDM. Baseline BPSS clearance is required; eligible to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design for manufacture.
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Leading mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacture.
• Producing 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
• Supporting and mentoring fellow engineers.
• Working closely with manufacturing, procurement, and other technical teams to deliver robust, cost-effective solutions.
• Driving improvements in design processes, documentation, and engineering standards.
• Supporting the migration of legacy design files into SolidWorks PDM.
