  • Identify and develop R&D and Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  • Investigate Safety and Technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide technical reference/guidance to equipment suppliers, internal departments, and customers. Approve/witness factory tests and inspections at supplier’s works.
  • Manage supplier interfaces and provide technical assistance/approval to suppliers.
  • Check the technical work of others and provide technical guidance to colleagues in other departments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Create technical design appraisal documents for submission to marine classification societies.
  • Manage Requirements, Risks, Assumptions, Interfaces, and Issues during all design phases.

Qualification and experience requirements

  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with IMECHE or other relevant institute.
  • Engineering experience relevant to this role.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated industry.
  • Applicants with previous experience in the marine or offshore oil and gas industry are preferred.
  • Proven track record in leading the technical delivery of projects to quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Experience spanning concept, product development, and in-service (ILS) support.
  • Experience creating equipment assembly arrangements and Engineering Bills of Materials using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Assessment of designs to ensure code compliance, using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess and optimize products.
  • Production of technical specifications, test procedures, and manuals for marine mechanical systems and components.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD systems such as AutoCAD and Creo.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of BS EN 8888 and BS EN 22553 standards for drawing production.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with external bodies such as marine classification societies and UK MoD departments.

Note: Some contracts are for the UK Ministry of Defence, and the successful candidate will need to attain UK BPSS or SC Clearance with no caveats.
