Job summary

Search Consultancy LTD is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio across commercial, residential and education sectors in London. You will lead schemes from concept to completion, owning design outputs and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers mentoring of junior engineers, client liaison, and ensuring compliance with current standards and legislation, with opportunity to develop sustainable, low-carbon building services solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in a Building Services consultancy.
• Strong project experience across commercial, residential, and education sectors.
• Proficient in Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD and Revit.
• Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Chartered status or working towards Chartership is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of building services projects across all RIBA stages.
• Design and specify HVAC, public health, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
• Produce design calculations, technical specifications, reports, and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with electrical engineers, architects, contractors, and other consultants.
• Attend client, design team, and site meetings as the lead mechanical representative.
• Manage project programmes, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers.
• Ensure all designs comply with current legislation, regulations, and industry standards.

An established Building Services Consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of projects across the commercial, residential, and education sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, developing client relationships, and mentoring junior engineers. You will lead schemes from concept through to completion, working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering innovative and sustainable building services solutions.
