Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Principal Engineer (Mechanical) to join the Mechanical Assurance, Governance and Framework Support team within Kier Water Division, with a national remit. This full-time role offers flexible hours and requires an experienced engineer to drive governance, assurance and technical consistency across projects.

Responsibilities include providing principal-level guidance, handling complex design and commissioning matters, conducting risk-based assurance, and mentoring

Qualifications

• Degree, higher technical qualification or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
• Extensive mechanical engineering experience within water, wastewater or similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical governance, assurance, quality management and relevant standards.
• Experience resolving complex mechanical issues and influencing across functions.

Responsibilities

• Provide principal-level mechanical advice, assurance and constructive challenges to Framework teams.
• Support teams with complex design, installation, testing and commissioning matters.
• Conduct risk-based assurance through targeted reviews, audits and health checks.
• Lead the Mechanical Working Group to drive governance, lessons learned and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and support mechanical engineers and Authorising Engineers to build capability and consistency.
