Caterpillar Inc. in Peterborough, UK, is seeking a Senior Metallurgical & Materials Specialist to provide materials engineering support across Caterpillar’s UK/Europe facilities.

You will investigate a wide range of materials and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions. This role emphasizes collaboration, compliance with specifications, and the ability to communicate technical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Materials Science/Metallurgy degree or substantial practical working experience in a materials laboratory environment.
• Metallurgical / materials evaluation of new products, processes, or systems.
• Engaging communicator; able to convey technical assessments and results to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Providing technical guidance on product and process maintenance.
• Ability to identify metallurgical / materials manufacturing defects and make process improvement recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Partner with and provide technical guidance to other teams.
• Integrate components and materials, aligning with compliance and specification requirements.
• Gather relevant information, compare, and contrast data; identify relationships to support and assist in prediction and identification of failures.
• Provide results and assessment back into the business; potentially an impactful output that may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers.
