Job summary

GKN Aerospace in Luton is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to lead non-metallic materials projects, focusing on polymer materials science, processing and transparency coatings. You will guide test plans, support production, and collaborate with global teams to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Chemistry / Materials Science / aerospace engineering education at BSc or MSc level.
• Knowledge of polymer material science and processing.
• Experience in an industrial engineering environment, preferably aerospace.
• Experience with quality systems, standards and documentation.
• Excellent reporting and project management skills; strong English.
• Team player with proactive attitude and the ability to work with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Development of manufacturing processes for transparent polymer and adhesive materials.
• Lead thin film polymer coatings projects and material obsolescence efforts.
• Interact with leadership, manage the Material Obsolescence process.
• Prepare tests and plans; interpret test data to substantiate changes.
• Provide specialist support to programmes and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Ensure safety compliance and maintain relevant specifications and handbooks.
