Job summary

Red Funnel Limited in Southampton seeks an experienced Engineer Officer to support the operation and maintenance of propulsion systems, electrical distribution, and onboard equipment. The role involves deputising for the Chief Engineer, monitoring machinery performance, and leading engineering activities on a rostered 41-hour week across a 22-hour operation, seven days a week.

Accommodation is not provided on-board, so candidates must reside within commuting distance of our Southampton

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience working with marine diesel engines on passenger or commercial vessels.
• Strong leadership and team-working capabilities in a marine environment.
• Proven ability to diagnose and rectify faults in propulsion and onboard systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the Chief Engineer with operation and maintenance of propulsion systems and onboard equipment.
• Deputise for the Chief Engineer when required.
• Monitor machinery performance and carry out inspections to identify defects.
• Lead or assist with emergency drills and ensure lifesaving equipment is ready for use.
• Coach and develop engineering team members and new recruits.
• Support vessel loading operations and mezzanine deck activities as needed.
• Assist with refit planning, budget control and contractor supervision.
• Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and environmental compliance.
