Gold Group in Huddersfield is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for a permanent role with a 4-day week option. You will guide manufacturing/assembly teams, act as SME for gear profile generation and finish grinding, and ensure right-first-time manufacturing in complex aerospace and defence projects.

The ideal candidate has an engineering degree, experience with rotating components, PFMEA, GD&T, and lean process controls, and will be eligible for UK security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role within aerospace, defence or heavy engineering.
• Experience with rotating component manufacturing, including turning, boring, milling, gear cutting and grinding.
• Strong understanding of dimensional metrology, digital measurement systems and measurement-data analysis.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, materials and surface finishes, and produce or approve manufacturing drawings.
• Experience assessing manufacturability, machining strategies, tooling and inspection methods.
• Knowledge of heat treatment processes, quality assurance and manufacturing process controls.
• Proficiency in root cause analysis, PFMEA and failure mode analysis.

Responsabilités

• Provide technical guidance to manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure build quality and adherence to standards.
• Act as the communication line between manufacturing/assembly and engineering to give clear direction to relevant teams.
• Be SME for gear profile generation (hobbing, shaping, profile grinding) and finish grinding, liaising with Design Engineering and machine tool operators.
• Guide manufacturability and machine-tool capability to ensure right-first-time outputs and support design reviews.
• Lead PFMEAs with process mapping, risk mitigation, and creation/approval of procedures and protocols.
• Lead make-versus-buy assessments for complex machined components based on capability, cost, capacity, risk and certification constraints.
• Provide manufacturing sign-off at design gates (PDR, CDR, release to manufacture).
• Assess supplier machining capabilities (axis count, deep hole drilling, gear cutting, grinding, heat treatment, NDT).
