Job Description:

The Senior Portfolio Manager manages portfolios and performs portfolio analysis for assigned portfolios. The role involves managing equity index portfolios for Vanguard’s European accounts, leading a team of portfolio managers and traders, and contributing to strategic projects and innovation in the field.

About the role

Vanguard is built on the premise that an investment firm should manage funds solely in the interests of its clients. The Equity Index Group manages equity index portfolios for Vanguard’s European accounts. As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you will help grow this segment by leveraging your technical expertise, risk management skills, and leadership abilities to inspire and develop your team.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage and coach a team of Portfolio Managers and Traders.
2. Oversee day-to-day management of equity index portfolios, including cash flow investments, trading index changes, corporate actions, and equity trading.
3. Lead special projects related to equity fund management, trading, and innovation.
4. Drive strategic discussions and process improvements within the desk.
5. Develop expertise in index methodology, benchmark characteristics, and risk models.
6. Supervise analysis on index changes and rebalances to provide insights.
7. Understand equity market structure, trading automation, and algorithmic trading techniques.
8. Stay informed on industry developments, regulations, and exchange rules.
9. Mentor and attract talent to the team.
10. Represent the Equity Index Group on projects related to product management, government relations, and technology.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Senior-level portfolio management or trading experience, preferably in equity index environments.
2. Extensive managerial experience leading large teams in a complex, global firm.
3. Curious and questioning mindset to improve client outcomes.
4. CFA certification is highly preferred.

Please note: Most teams at Vanguard operate on a hybrid basis, with some teams working in-office five days a week and others with flexible arrangements.
