Job description

If you're looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We're one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking a highly experienced individual to join the team as Senior Manager, Employee Relations Advisory.

The Senior Manager, Employee Relations Advisory will operate confidently within a complex, global matrix organisation, building alignment and influencing effectively across HR, business leadership, people managers, Employment Legal, Risk and other key stakeholders.

The Senior Manager, Employee Relations Advisory will bring a strong understanding of the financial services regulatory landscape and apply this context when navigating complex, high-risk people issues and providing pragmatic, risk-based advice within a role that spans all businesses, functions and entities.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you'll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

What you'll be doing
  • Taking senior-level ownership of the most complex, sensitive and high-risk people matters across the organisation, exercising independent judgement and ensuring outcomes are consistent with HSBC values, risk appetite and regulatory expectations. This includes leading formal processes, litigation strategy and settlement negotiations, and advising on significant organisational change.
  • Producing authoritative, executive-quality written advice, decision papers, outcome letters and stakeholder briefings that clearly articulate legal, regulatory, conduct, reputational and employee-relations risk.
  • Acting as a trusted strategic adviser to senior business and HR leaders, partnering with Employment Legal, Risk and Compliance to shape decisions on complex employment matters and ensure risks are identified, assessed, escalated and managed appropriately within a regulated financial-services environment.
  • Setting standards for the quality and consistency of ER advice, providing senior coaching and constructive challenge to HR colleagues and people leaders, and serving as an escalation point for senior or junior colleagues on matters requiring expert judgement.
  • Leading complex, enterprise-wide ER initiatives and acting as the recognised subject-matter expert for designated areas, translating legal and regulatory developments into practical policy, governance and operating responses.
  • Using insight from casework, emerging risk and external developments to influence senior stakeholders, strengthen organisational capability and proactively support a high-performing, well-controlled culture and the delivery of strategic priorities.
What you'll bring
  • A substantial track record as a senior Employee Relations specialist, taking independent ownership of the most complex, sensitive and high-risk people matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and appeal processes, employment litigation strategy, without-prejudice discussions and the negotiation and drafting of settlement agreements.
  • Demonstrable expertise in planning and leading complex employment investigations, including scoping allegations, assessing evidence, conducting rigorous interviews, reaching defensible findings and producing executive-quality investigation reports. You will be highly capable of working alongside internal investigation teams, Employment Legal, Risk and Compliance while maintaining clear accountability for the employment-relations aspects of the matter.
  • Extensive experience providing authoritative, risk-based advice on complex organisational change, including redundancy, redeployment and TUPE programmes, with the judgement to identify and manage legal, regulatory, conduct, reputational and employee-relations risk. Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions is desirable.
  • Deep and current knowledge of UK employment law, HR policy and procedure, and the regulatory landscape governing financial services, with a strong record of translating those requirements into pragmatic, commercially aware and well-controlled outcomes.
  • Proven success operating at senior level within a complex, global matrix organisation, influencing executive stakeholders, constructively challenging decisions and building alignment across business leadership, HR, Employment Legal, Risk, Compliance and internal investigation teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, sound judgement and diplomacy are essential, together with the ability to coach colleagues and set high professional standards.

Role can be based in Leeds, Chester or Birmingham on a hybrid basis.
