Job Description

This will be Smiths Detection’s first Corporate Reporting expert. The successful candidate will be the internal financial reporting specialist with crucial responsibilities in preparing the Detection business for separation via sale or de-merger from Smiths Group plc, with a view to Smiths Detection becoming a separate FTSE 250 listed business by the end of the 2026 calendar year. The role involves managing the external review/audit process and creating new processes and policies to prepare for external reporting. It requires a strong understanding of the corporate reporting environment and audit requirements, and the ability to research technical questions.

The role is based at the Smiths Group plc headquarters in London, with hybrid working arrangements. It is a fixed-term role (6 months), as the separation is one of the options being considered, with the other being a sale. The ideal candidate may be interested in a longer-term role with Detection, though this cannot be guaranteed at present.

Qualifications
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
  • Over 5 years PQE in FTSE100 or FTSE250 (FTSE350) multicurrency corporate reporting, with an interest in consolidations and technical accounting
  • Big 4 audit background is useful but not essential
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a track record of delivering quality reporting and making effective decisions in a complex, global market

  • Motivated, forward-thinking, results-oriented, with a strong team focus
  • Flexible, with a problem-solving mindset, able to prioritize and work with diverse, dispersed stakeholders

  • Strong relationship-building skills, understanding customer needs internally and externally
