Job summary

Wellcome Trust invites applications for a Senior Manager, Tools, Technology & AI to lead Wellcome’s work on tools, technologies, methodologies and AI within discovery research.

The role manages strategic investments, identifies opportunities and builds partnerships across the research and innovation landscape to strengthen scientific capability.

This 12‑month fixed‑term contract requires a PhD or equivalent, plus experience coordinating complex programmes and engaging with researchers and funders.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research experience in health, technology or innovation.
• Demonstrated expertise in tools, technologies, methodologies and/or AI relevant to health-related research.
• Experience coordinating complex strategic programmes across multiple streams.
• Experience in senior research/funding roles within large organisations.
• Proven ability to build and sustain multi-organisation partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Lead Wellcome’s approach to tools, technologies, methodologies and AI across Discovery Research, shaping funding priorities and partnerships.
• Identify opportunities through horizon scanning and engagement with researchers, technologists and funders to maximise impact.
• Collaborate with the Data for Science & Health team to develop a coordinated AI strategy and maximise influence.
• Provide insights to inform strategy, strengthen networks and support decision-making.
• Monitor portfolio activity and use data to improve funding, engagement and impact.
