Job summary

Macildowie Recruitment and Retention is recruiting a Senior Management Accountant for our Derby portfolio. You will own full month-end, P&L commentary, balance sheet reconciliations and lead part of a multi-site finance team.

This hands-on role involves coaching junior team members, reviewing journals and forecasts, and acting as the escalation point for technical issues. Derby-based, on-site with some flexibility around hours.

Qualifications

• Qualified in CIMA/ACA/ACCA with accountancy background.
• Experience reviewing others' work and coaching juniors; line management a plus.
• Strong Excel skills; Power Query and/or VBA a bonus.
• Confident in communicating with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.

Responsibilities

• Own a portfolio of management accounts with full P&L ownership and commentary.
• Review packs, forecasts and journals for accuracy.
• Line manage and coach a small team.
• Act as escalation point for technical/process issues.
• Review and challenge forecasts for accuracy and commercial sense.

Senior Management Accountant Derby Up to £60,000

We're recruiting on behalf of an established, multi-site business based in Derby for a Senior Management Accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of management accounts and lead part of a wider finance team.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role. You'll own full month-end for your portfolio - P&L ownership and commentary, balance sheet reconciliations, and reviewing packs prepared by Management and Assistant Management Accountants before they go further up the business. You'll be the escalation point for technical questions, you'll coach and develop less experienced team members, and you'll take the lead during audit.

What you'll be doing:

• Owning a portfolio of management accounts to a high standard, including full P&L ownership and commentary
• Reviewing team members' packs, forecasts and journals for accuracy and consistency
• Line managing and coaching a small team, with real people-development responsibility
• Acting as the escalation point for technical or process issues
• Reviewing and challenging team-produced forecasts for accuracy and commercial sense
• Owning allocated technical areas (e.g. recharges, reconciliations, payroll journals)
• Supporting audit and managing finance queries professionally
• Identifying and driving practical process improvements

What we're looking for:

• CIMA, ACA or ACCA qualified
• Experience reviewing others' work, coaching junior team members, and ideally some line management
• Strong Excel skills - Power Query and/or VBA a bonus
• Confident communicating with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Practice background welcome (Audit Managers/Seniors looking to move into industry for the first time are a strong fit) - equally open to a strong second-time mover from industry
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-site environment

The details:

• Up to £60,000
• Derby, on site 5 days a week, with flexibility around start/finish times and occasional home working
• Genuine scope to grow into a broader leadership role as the team expands
