Job summary

Tesco Technology in Welwyn Garden City is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to contribute to delivery of scalable data products across Tesco's data platforms. You will work with engineers, data scientists, product managers and analytics professionals to deploy ML solutions from development to production.

You will apply SDLC practices, lead a small team of engineers, and use Python, MLOps tools and cloud technologies such as Azure to build resilient, high‑performing systems at Tesco

Qualifications

• A higher degree in engineering, computer science, maths or science.
• Customer focus with outcome delivery and technical excellence.
• Apply technical skills to solving real world business problems.
• Demonstrable experience building scalable and resilient software systems.
• Experience leading a small team of engineers to meet technical delivery and business outcomes.
• Commercial experience contributing to high impact Data Science projects within complex organisations.
• Experience in MLOps practices and tooling (advantage: feature stores, model lifecycle).
• Fluent in Python; understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Version control with Git; SDLC tooling.
• Experience with monitoring/logging/alerting tools (Splunk, New Relic, Grafana).
• Experience with Spark, Databricks, Snowflake or BigQuery for big-data transformations.
• Experience building cloud-based solutions (Azure).
• Familiarity with Scrum & Kanban.

Responsibilities

• Participating in group discussions on system design and architecture.
• Translating business needs into technical requirements with product teams.
• Collaborating with Data Scientists, Engineers and Product teams across the lifecycle.
• Delivering high quality code and production-ready solutions.
• Conducting code reviews to optimise performance of data science solutions.
• Supporting production systems, incident resolution and root cause analysis.
• Evolving technology, processes and practices for better outcomes.
• Sharing knowledge with the wider engineering community.
• Applying SDLC practices to create and release robust software.
