Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB)
  • Certificate of Completion of Training in General Surgery / Colorectal, CCT, or equivalent
  • Further additional qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Attainment or working toward MSc / MD / PHD or equivalent
  • Adult life support provider (ALS / ATLS)
  • Bachelor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (BAO)

Skills / Knowledge / Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant speciality clinical knowledge & training, as per Royal College of Surgeons
  • Research Skills: Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of research
  • Experience of active involvement in Audit (clear description, outcomes & appropriate experience for level of application)

Desirable criteria

  • Clinical: Interest / experience in Endometriosis Surgery, Pelvic Floor / Mesh Surgery.
  • Research / Publications: Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g., book chapter, book editor, case report)
  • Presentations: Oral or poster at international, national or regional meetings
  • Management: Relevant contribution to management within General Surgery (e.g., rotas, committees etc.)
  • Teaching: Formal training (e.g., courses, PG certificate, etc.) and evidenced experience

Communication

Essential criteria

  • Is empathetic and sensitive to patients' needs Able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information
  • Is able to influence and persuade effectively
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2024).
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills in order to be able to write & present reports at board level.
