Job summary

CBS Butler is seeking a Linux/DevOps Subject Matter Expert to join a high-profile technical environment onsite in Basingstoke. You will provide senior-level expertise across Linux infrastructure, DevOps tooling, automation and platform engineering, acting as a technical authority and guiding engineering, development and operations teams.

The role requires active MOD DV clearance and a hands-on SME mindset, capable of designing, implementing and maintaining Linux-based platforms, CI/CD pipelines,

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with Linux in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on DevOps/platform engineering expertise.
• Strong scripting/automation (Bash/Python).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling.
• Git/source control proficiency.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
• Experience with containers/orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker).
• Networking and systems integration knowledge.
• Experience in secure, highly controlled environments.
• Able to operate as a senior technical SME.

Responsibilities

• Act as Linux and DevOps SME, providing technical leadership across the environment.
• Design and maintain Linux-based infrastructure and platforms.
• Support DevOps tooling and CI/CD processes.
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks where possible.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux and platform issues.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and tooling.
• Support infrastructure-as-code and configuration management, e.g. Terraform/Ansible.
• Contribute to platform resilience, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, security and operations teams.
• Produce technical documentation and best-practice guidance.
• Mentor engineers as needed.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and propose improvements.
• Participate in design, architecture and implementation work.
