Job summary

OLIX is seeking a Senior Laser Architect to lead architectural direction for its laser design team. You will shape multi-year strategies, leveraging deep III-V device expertise and packaging integration to optimize system-level bandwidth, power, and density.

You will collaborate across electronics, optics, packaging, systems, and manufacturing, guiding decisions with first-principles thinking and evidence. Join a builder-friendly, high-impact environment with external engagement.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in semiconductor laser development.
• PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
• Experience shaping architecture and long-term technical direction for a laser or photonics domain beyond individual devices.
• Deep command of III-V materials, epitaxy (MBE/MOCVD), device physics, high-speed modulation, and reliability.
• Collaborative working style with evidence-based reasoning and debate to reach best architectural decisions.
• Proven ability to align cross-functional stakeholders around a long-term technical vision.
• Track record of developing shared design principles, standards, and roadmaps.
• External engagement through publications, patents, standards bodies, or industry involvement.
• Experience mentoring engineers at all levels; strong communication with both engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Shape the architectural vision and multi-year direction for OLIX's lasers.
• Bring III-V device expertise into design decisions and establish design principles.
• Tackle ambiguous, high-stakes problems and converge on durable directions.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align on a long-term laser roadmap.
• Inform architectural trade-offs that determine system-level performance.
• Raise the bar for design, simulation, and reliability through mentorship.
• Bring cutting-edge research and market shifts into the team's thinking.
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers in critical reviews and decisions.
• Connect laser decisions to business objectives and scalable volume.
