Purpose of the role

The Senior Technician will perform sampling, field testing, and specimen preparation tasks for Concrete, Asphalt, and Quarry products in accordance with relevant British standards and company procedures. The role includes supervising a team of up to 10 Quality Control Technicians or Laboratory Technicians.

You will work as part of a team, either directly supervised or remotely, maintaining high standards and attention to detail.

Key Accountabilities

• Maximize the contribution of the technical department towards cost-effective product manufacture.
• Establish and maintain product quality levels aligned with commercial, operational, and customer requirements.
• Provide high-quality technical support to Commercial, Operations, and external customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your manager.

Job dimensions

• Provide leadership that motivates and enables high performance among Quality Control Technicians.
• Develop technicians through training, coaching, and mentoring.
• Carry out sampling, field testing, and specimen preparation of Concrete, Asphalt, and Quarry products following relevant standards and procedures.
• Investigate and report on quality issues at sites and depots, including product sampling, testing, preliminary investigations, water demand reviews, and review of site practices and delivery issues.
• Raise NCRs and Near Hits as appropriate.
• Challenge behaviors that negatively impact safety and quality.
• Assist in transporting test specimens.

Job Requirements

• Driving license (manual).
• Flexible and committed approach, with the ability to work outside normal hours.
• Computer literacy.
• Organized with decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize.
• Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.

Education/Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs at grades A-C, including Math and English, or equivalent professional experience for mature candidates.
