Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.

The role:

Senior Lab Coordinator is needed in Slough, UK, to document lab work, follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), impact Development Services strategy and innovation. This is a lab-based role where lab work is fully documented, carried out safely, and in accordance with cGMP where necessary.

Please note that this role supervises and coordinates all activities associated with the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment within Development Services and the broader network!

Key responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate engineering work within your designated laboratory areas, acting as a key liaison between the Site Laboratory Services team, vendors, contractors, and engineering.
  2. Prepare rotas for team activities (e.g., lab cleans, area rotas) and monitor adherence, making recommendations based on departmental changes.
  3. Coordinate storage and inventory of consumables, assist with ordering items, and build new stock items, driving improvements to current systems.
  4. Review area log books and ensure the completion of outstanding actions.
  5. Purchase relevant new equipment and monitor equipment lifecycle, making recommendations based on performance and historical data in line with the departmental budget (CAPEX). Introduce new technologies and innovations to the department.
  6. Maintain critical metrics around equipment performance and utilisation rates, raising awareness in the department and wider forums, and recommending improvements based on data to improve KPIs.
  7. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and successfully implement new ideas for better processes.
  8. Supervise daily tasks for junior Laboratory Coordinators and Technicians across departments.
  9. Serve as a trained and active Safety RES representative for the department.
  10. Lead X-matrix projects for the Department and/or Development Services.
  11. Represent the department for any new or repurposed laboratory space.
Key requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in biology, STEM, life sciences, or a relevant scientific background with equivalent experience also considered.
  2. Proven project management skills, capable of leading department-wide projects.
  3. Proficiency in Excel and outstanding organisational skills.
  4. Ability to build and maintain a cross-department network.
  5. Excellent communication skills, working effectively with both lab employees and management.

At Lonza, we are committed to respecting and protecting our people and our environment. We value ethical achievement and the positive impact our products and services have on millions of lives worldwide. Join us to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions in life sciences, making a meaningful difference every day.
