Job summary

CPS Group (UK) Ltd in Cardiff is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join a growing software team in a hybrid role. You will design and develop complex Java applications using Spring Boot, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to architectural decisions within an Agile environment.

You’ll own features from design to delivery, collaborate with Product Managers and Architects, and help improve performance, security and CI/CD practices while exploring new tooling and AI-enabled delivery methods.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience mentoring developers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Experience with AWS cloud technologies and PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing complex Java applications using modern engineering practices.

CPS Group are supporting an established technology organisation in Cardiff with the recruitment of a Senior Java Engineer to join their growing software engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Java Developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring other engineers and contributing to the design of modern, scalable software solutions.

Working within an Agile environment, you'll take ownership of complex features from design through to delivery, remaining hands-on throughout the development lifecycle. Alongside writing high-quality code, you'll mentor junior developers, contribute to architectural discussions and help drive continuous improvement across the engineering function.

The Role

• Strong knowledge of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Experience working within Agile software development teams.
• Passion for writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Experience mentoring developers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Strong understanding of software performance, scalability and engineering best practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience with AWS cloud technologies.
• Exposure to React and TypeScript.
